The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards Honor Exceptional Leaders Throughout the Nation
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation established the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to highlight the crucial role volunteers play in America’s strength and national identity. This award celebrates individuals whose service positively impacts communities across the nation and inspires others to take action.
The PVSA has been upheld by every administration, recognizing volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to addressing some of the nation’s toughest challenges. Administered by AmeriCorps in partnership with Points of Light, this program enables Certifying Organizations to honor their most outstanding volunteers.
Benefits of Earning the PVSA: The President’s Volunteer Service Award is a prestigious national honor that underscores your commitment to community and national service. For high school students, this award not only enhances your resume for college and job applications but also inspires others to engage in volunteer service, making it a central part of their lives.
The PVSA includes several levels: bronze, silver, gold, and the highest honor, the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, for those who contribute over 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime. Below are the hour requirements for each level.

The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes, honors, and celebrates citizens who make a positive impact as engaged and profoundly committed volunteers. The Award enables community organizations to express their appreciation for their most devoted volunteers alongside the President of the United States. Nominations accepted between October 1 and May 15.
